 Barleycorn Barn          Crowcombe

Self Catering and B&B Accommodation                             Quantock Hills

Crowcombe & Surrounding  Area

The pretty village of Crowcombe, first written about in 854, lies half a mile from  the A358 and is

conveniently positioned for access to the M5 at Bridgwater (17 miles) and Taunton (10 miles),

and for the A303.  The friendly 17th Century  Carew Arms pub  is a few minutes’ walk from the

Barn, and serves lunches and dinners. The Church of the Holy Ghost, dating back to 1226, stands

majestically overlooking the beautiful medieval Church House, built in the early 1500s.

In addition to the stunning countryside of the Quantock Hills with its herds of  ponies and red deer,

are the nearby rolling Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park.  The area is a walker’s paradise

with the Quantock Greenway, the MacMillan Path, and the Coleridge Way close by.  Fossil hunters

can visit Kilve Beach, an Area of Special Scientific Interest.  A few miles to the west is the start of

the South West Coastal Path at Minehead where visitors can also discover the ‘old town’,  relax

on the sandy beach, fish in the harbour or take a coastal boat trip.

Many quiet pebbled bays and quaint villages such as Porlock, Allerford and Selworthy are waiting

to be explored.  Dunster with its famous Castle, Lynmouth and Lynton are fascinating ancient

towns and other attractions include the West Somerset Steam Railway (which has a station at

Crowcombe Heathfield, 2 miles away), golf courses and horse riding.  Boating and fishing are

available at Wimbleball Reservoir, and the beautifully restored Hestercombe Gardens are only a

few miles away.  The variety of activities and rugged coastline make the area a year-round

destination.
